A shop sold some compact discs yesterday.

7/12 of them were video compact discs and 4/5

of the remainder were music compact discs.

It sold 15 more video compact discs more than

music compact discs. How many compact discs did it

sell altogether?

Let the total number of discs be 12 u

VCD---7u
MCD---4u

7u-4u= 3u----15
1u---5
12 u---60

Hope this helps

Hi,
solution as follows:
7/12 -- Video CDs

Draw a bar model to show 12 units, mark 7 units for Video CDs
Balance 5 units, but only 4/5 of these 5 units are Music CDs ---> so only 4 units for music cds

If the shop sold 15 more video CDs than music CDs, 15 would be represented by (7-4) units ---> 3 units

3 units ---> 15
1 unit ---> 5

It sold 12 units of compact discs.
so 12 x 5 ---> 60 compact discs sold
