Hi, I need help again......

Mrs Lim bought some bowls and plates. If she buys another 5 bowls there are 60% as many bowls as plates. If she buys another 9 plates there will be thrice as many plates as bowls. How many bowls did she buy?

Siti had some money. She gave some money to Kelly and Lindy and saved the rest. The ratio o fher savings to the amount she gave away was 5:8. The ratio of Kelly's money was 5:3 at first. After Kelly's money increased by \$128 and Lindy's money decreased by \$128 the ratio of Kelly's money to Lindy's money became 3:1. How much money did Siti save?

Use units and parts

B = 6u:10u = 3u:5u

B = 1p:3p

Thus,
3u=1p +5------------- Eqn 1
5u + 9 =3p------------Eqn 2

Eqn1 x 3-------------9u = 3p + 15------------Eqn 3

Substitute Eqn 2 into Eqn 3------------9u= 5u + 9 +15
Therefore, 4u = 24
1u= 6
No. of bowls = 6 x 3 - 5
= 13

Hope this helps:-)

Sorry, do not know why the smileys appear on the ratios,

B : P = 3u : 5u
B : P = 1p : 3p

Missed this the last time i logged in.

I believed the 4th sentence should read "The ratio of Kelly's money to Lindy's money was 5:3 at first." If not, not solvable.

At first----K : L = 5 : 3
After------K : L = 3 : 1
Since K's amount increased by 128 and L's amount decreased by the same amount, the total number of units for before and after must be the same.
Thus,
After-----K : L = 6 : 2

Therefore, 1u = 128
