Hello Veronica,

Do u have the answer key? Believe the answer to this is 160 cm2.

Worked solution

Area of Square : Area of Triangle = 3 : 4 --------- (a)
Area of Unshaded Square : Area of Triangle = 3 : 8 --------- (b)

Applying Repeated Identity concept and restating the problem, obtain the equivalent ratio for (a) such that the units for Area of Triangle in both (a) and (b) are the same.

Hence, multiplying ratio (a) by 2 and combining both (a) and (b) will give the following result.

Area of Square : Area of Triangle : Area of Unshaded Square
6 : 8 : 3

SInce the shaded area = Area of Square - Area of Unshaded Square, we have

3u ----> 60 cm2
1u ----> 20 cm2

Area of Triangle = 8u ---> 8 x 20 = 160 cm2.

Trust this helps... Big Grin Big Grin

Cheers,
Edward
