There are 860 pupils in a school. 1/3 if the boys and 1/5 of the girls wear spectacles while the rest do not wear spectacles. The total number of pupils who wear spectacles is 240.

a) How many boys are there in the school?

b) How many girls do not wear spectacles?

use simultaneous concept

3/3of boys+5/5 of girls =860....(1)
1/3of boys+1/5 of girls =240....(2)

multiply (2) by 3

3/3 of boys +3/5 of girls =240*3 ...(3)

(1)-(3)
2/5 of girls =860-720=140
1/5 of girls =140/2=70
girls =70*5=350
(a)boys =860-350=510

(b)4/5 of girls havent wear spectacles
1/5 of girls =70
4/5 of girls=70*4=280
