A moment ago, the ratio of the amount of rice in a basin to that in a tank was 9:5. I transferred 24kg of rice from the basin to the tank. Now there are 21/2 times as much rice in the tank as in the basin. Find the total amount of rice in the 2 containers at first.

Ratio at 1st---B : T = 9 : 5-----(1)
Ratio after---B : T = 2 : 5-----(2)

In this qn, the total amount of rice before and after remains unchanged.
Thus, the total units in (1) is 14 and the total units in (2) is 7.
L.C.M. of 14 and 7 is 14.
So, (2) x 2-------4 : 10

This means,
9u - 4u = 5 u----- 24 kg
1u----24/5= 4.8 kg
14u----4.8 x 14 =67.2 kg

Ans: 67.2 kg
