Mrs. Tan gave John \$50 to purchase some fruits and a cake. John spent \$16 on mangoes and 50% of the remaining on strawberries. The money he received from Mrs. Tan was \$2 more than the total cost of the fruits and the cake. If John wanted to buy a toy that cost \$5, what was the least percentage discount he must obtain from the cake shop?

Mangoes----16
Strawberries----1/2 x (50-16) = 17
Money spent on fruits and cake----50-2=48
Cake----48- (16 + 17) = 15
Extra money needed--- 5-2=3
Therefore, % discount-----3/15 x 100 = 20

Ans: 20%
