I think have to base on your child's speed to determine on how much time to leave for the comprehension part. For me, normally I would recommend allocate the time for each section based on the marks allocated to it. For example, if the comprehension is 10 marks out of 100 marks and the paper is 1 hour and 45 minutes. I would allocate 10% of the total time for comprehension, which is effectively around 10 minutes.

Of course, that is just my general rule of thumb. Any parents with other suggestions?

As a guide you could use Total minutes / Marks for the Section.

By knowing the marks allocation, you can also help your child to practise at home. Give him/ her a comprehension practice and allocated the desired time to finish it. Practice make perfect.
