Hi

Q1. Sulin, Mary and Jim were given some funfair tickets to sell. Each ticket was sold at the same price. Sulin sold 1/3 of the tickets. Mary and Jim sold the remaining tickets in the ratio of 3 : 5. Jim sold 15 more tickets than Sulin. After all the tickets were sold, the 3 girls collected a total of \$1350. Find the cost of each ticket.

Tickets sold by Sulin : Mary + Jim --> 1 : 2 = 4u : 8u
Sulin : Mary : Jim --> 4u : 3u : 5u
5u – 4u = 1u, 1u --> 15
Total number of tickets = 15 x 12 = 180
Cost of each ticket = \$1350 ÷ 180 = \$ 7.50

Q2. Mr. Tan went to the supermarket with some money. If he bought 50 kg of rice, he would need another \$ 17.50. However, if he bought 32 kg of rice, he would have \$24.80 left.
Find the cost of 1 kg of rice.
How much money did Mr. Tan have ?

50 kg – 32 kg = 18 kg
18 kg --> \$ 24.80 + \$ 17.50 = \$ 42.30
1 kg --> \$ 2.35

1 kg of rice cost \$ 2.35

\$2.35 x 32 + \$ 24.80 = \$ 100

cheers.

Chatty
