Please help me solve this question with detailed working. Many thanks!

Q29 The mass of a container, completely filled with biscuits, is 11/10 kg. When it is 1/3 filled with biscuits, its mass is 7/10kg. What is the mass of the empty container?

Hey there,

Following pls find the worked solution (using Simultaneous / Compare & Replace / Elimination technique):

C + B = 11/10 ----- (1)
C + 1/3 B = 7/10 ---- (2)

(1) - (2):
B - 1/3 B = 11/10 - 7/10
2/3 B = 4/10
1/3 B = 2/10

Substitute 1/3 B into (2):
C + 2/10 = 7/10
C = 7/10 - 2/10 = 5/10 = 1/2 kg

==================================

Trust the above helps.

Cheers,
Edward
