I think it would be 'were'.
'Were' is for something impossible and 'Was is for something possible.
e.g., If John was late, he will be scolded.

I also think is were but my girl's teacher gave the answer " was" Frown . Anyone can give me the definite answer so that i can highlight to the teacher.

I've just got it why the answer is"was"!

I knew that as it is singular,so it is "was"!

God,why didn't i think of thatRazz

Both 'was' and 'were' can be used, but 'were' is grammatically correct.
