On Monday, Grandma had some yellow and purple sweets in the, she made 54more ratio 9:7. On Tuesday, she made 54 more yellow sweets. On Wednesday, she gave away 44 purple sweets and sold 129 yellow sweets. In the end, the number of yellow sweets to the number of purple sweets were in the ratio 6:5. How many yellow sweets are there in the end?

Hi Shirley,

If I remember correctly , you posted this question before. Btw I would like to check on the following statement extracted out from your question.

<On Monday, Grandma had some yellow and purple sweets in the , she made 54more ratio 9:7>..

Referring to the text highlighted in red, is there a typo error? It seems to me that it is.

Following pls find my worked solution :

<Before>
Y : P
9 : 7

<Process>
+54 Y, -44 P, -129 Y
Total: -75 Y, -44 P

<After>
Y : P
6 : 5

Apply <Changed Qtys concept>, and using Cross-Multiply method, we have ...

(9u - 75) / 6 = (7u - 44) / 5
5 x (9u - 75) = 6 x (7u - 44)
45u - 375 = 42u - 264
45u - 42u --> 375 - 264
3u --> 111
1u --> 37

Y (in the end) = 9u - 75 --> (9 x 37) - 75
= 333 - 75
= 258

=======================

Trust the above helps.

Do let me know again if this is different from your Answerkey, or if there's any clarification.

Cheers,
Edward
