1) Sherrie had 26 more \$5 notes than \$10 notes. After paying \$480 for a camera with some of the \$5 notes, she has 6 times as many as \$10 notes as \$5 notes.
(a) How many \$5 notes did Sherrie have at first?
(b) How much money did Sherrie have left?

Hey Shirley,

Following pls find my worked solution:

*** - for alignment purpose

Q1.

<before>

\$10 |----------------|
* \$5 |---------------<26>|

<process>
Paid \$480 using \$5 notes;

480 รท 5 = 96 (\$5 notes)

<after>

**** <----- 6u ----->
\$10 |----------------|
* \$5 |----|<-- 70 --><26>
**** <1u>

Apply <Gap & Difference> method, we have ...

6u - 1u --> 70
5u --> 70
1u --> 14

(a)
\$5 notes (at first) = 1u + 96 --> 14 + 96 = 110

(b)
Money left = 6u (\$10) + 1u (\$5)

\$10:
6u --> 6 x 14 = 84
Value: 84 x 10 = \$840

\$5:
1u --> 14
Value: 14 x 5 = \$70

Total money left = \$840 + \$70 = \$910

==============

Trust this helps.

Do let me know again if this answer is different from your Answerkey or if there's further clarification.

Cheers,
Edward
