Hey Jessica ,

(note: if you are referring to the Answerkey for (b) which read as \$25.23, that is most likely a typo / print error)

Following pls find the worked solution:

A : (B + C + D)

5 : 6

B : (C + D)
1 : 5

C : D
3 : 2

hence,

A : B : C : D
5 : 1 : 3 : 2

C - B = 48
3u - 1u --> 48
2u --> 48
1u --> 24

(a)

A = 5u --> 5 × 24 = 120

(b)

In order for number of apples left in A to be same as that in D, 3u of apples in A would be sold.

3u --> 3 × 24 = 72
Amount collected = 72 × 0.35 = \$25.20

======================

Trust this helps.

Do let me know again if there's further clarification.

Cheers,
Edward
