X, Y and Z shared their collection of stamps. X received 1/3 of the number of stamps. Y and Z shared the remaining stamps in the ratio of 5 : 3 respectively. If Y received 11 more stamps than X, how many stamps do they have in their collection?

Hi Jessica,

Following pls find my worked solution:

Q29

Y + Z shared (2/3) of the stamps in ratio of 5 : 3

Y = (5/8) × (2/3) = (5/12)

Z = (3/8) × (2/3) = (3/12)

Y - X = 11
(5/12) - (1/3) = 11
(1/12) = 11

Total collection = (12/12) = 12 × 11 = 132

=================

Trust this helps.

Do let me know again if this is different from your Answerkey or if there's further clarification.

Cheers,
Edward
