Hi everyone! I am stuck with this maths question. May you help me? Please show your workings clearly.

Qn1. Mdm Tan baked some pies for a party. 1/4 of the pies were small pies and the rest were large pies. 2/3 of the small pies and 5/9 of the large pies were eaten. There were 115 pies left in the end. How many pies did Mdm Tan bake?

hey shirley,

Following pls find my worked solution:

S: (1/4)
L: (3/4)

(1/3) S left = (1/3) × (1/4) = (1/12)
(4/9) L left = (4/9) × (3/4) = (1/3) = (4/12)

(1/12)S + (4/12)L = 115
(5/12) = 115
(12/12) = 115 × (12/5) = 276

============

Trust this helps.

Do let me know again if this is different from your Answerkey or if there's further clarification.

Cheers,
Edward
