Hi everyone! I am stuck with this maths question. May you help me? Please show your workings clearly.
Qn1. Shawn had 2/7 as much money as Keith. After Keith gave $1596 to Shawn, he had 1/2 as much as Shawn. How much did they have altogether?

Hi Shirley,
Following pls find my worked solution:
<Before>
S : K total
2 : 7 9  (1)
<Process>
K: 1596
S: +1596
<After>
S : K total
2 : 1 3  (2)
Apply <Unchanged Total> concept (i.e. total money before = total money after), multiply (2) 3x.
hence,
<After>
S : K total
6 : 3 9
Given that K gave $1596 to S, we have ...
K:
7u  3u > 1596
4u > 1596
1u > 399
S+K (at first) = 9u > 9 × 399 = $3591
========================
Trust this helps.
Do let me know again if this is different from your Answerkey or if there's further clarification.
Cheers,
Edward

Zoena86
Shawn : Keith
2 : 7 x 2 = 14
+1596  1596 x 2 = 3192
2 : 1 x 2 = 2
Method:
2u + 1596 = 14u  3192
1596 + 3192 = 14u  2u
4788 = 12u
399 = 1u
3591 = 9u
