Appreciate any help in guiding me to solve this question. Many thanks!

Randy and Kelly have the same number of books at first. After Randy gave away 25 books to Kelly, Randy has 3/8 as many books as Kelly. How many books did each of them have at first?

After:
Randy = 3 units
Kelly = 8 units

The difference btw two of them being 5 units, divide these by 2 (5/2 = 2 1/2)
ie, Before:
Randy = 3 units + 2 1/2 units = 5 1/2 units at first.
Kelly = 8 units - 2 1/2 units = 5 1/2 units at first

This also means Randy gave away 2 1/2 units which equals 25.
So 1 unit = 10

In the beginning, they each have 5 1/2 units = 55.
