1. Regan has 8 stacks of coins. He wants to arrange all the coins to form a square, with each side having an equal number of coins. How many coins are there on 3 sides of the square?

2.Jack wants to buy a bicycle but is short of \$44. Jill wants to buy the same bicycle but is short of \$37. If they combine their money, they will have just enough money to buy the bicycle. What is the cost of 2 such bicycles

Hey Strawberry,

As for Q1, I 'm not sure if theres any missing info regarding the number of coins used for the square. However , based on the limited info provided (as in 8 stacks of coins used to form a square), there would be 7 stacks of coins used on all 3 sides of the square.

Following pls find my worked solution for Q2.

Q2.

Ja |-----------|<---- 44 --->|
Ji* |-----------<7>|<- 37 ->|
** <-- 1u -->

Hence, (1u + 44) is the cost of 1 bicycle.

Given that when they combine their money, they will

have just enough money to buy the bicycle.

Combining both Ja and Ji's money, we have ...

2u + 7 = 1u + 44
1u --> 44 - 7 = 37

Hence cost of 1 bicycle = 1u + 44 --> 37 + 44 = 81

Cost of 2 bicycles = 2 × 81 = \$162
