Hi there, pls help solve this questions:-

Q10. Mrs Song has some money to buy apples and pears. If she buys 5 apples and 2 pears, she will have \$2.05 left. If she buys 2 apples and 7 pears instead, she will need another \$2.30. If an apple costs \$0.55, how much money does Mrs Song have?

Thanks

hey there

Following pls find my worked solution:

<5A + 2P>
|------------|<- 205 ->|
|-------------------------|<- 230 ->|
<------------- 2A + 7P ----------->

Using <Gap & Difference> method, we have ...

2A + 7P - (5A + 2P) = 205 + 230
2A + 7P - 5A - 2P = 435
5P - 3A = 435

Given that 1A = 55 cents, we have ...

5P - (3 × 55) = 435
5P - 165 = 435
5P = 435 + 165 = 600
1P = 600 ÷ 5 = 120

Amt of money = (5A + 2P) + 205
= (5 × 55) + (2 × 120) + 205
= 275 + 240 + 205
= 720

Mrs Song has \$7.20 at first.

Trust this helps.

Do let me know again if there's further clarification.

Cheers,
Edward
