Strawberry

Jewel bought some strawberries and wanted to put them into boxes. If she put 4 strawberries into each box, there would be 3 strawberries left. If she put 6 strawberries into each box, she would have 5 strawberries left.
a) If the number of strawberries was between 100 and 150, how many strawberries did Jewel buy?
b) Jewel decided to put all the strawberries equally into bags of 16. Find the minimum number of bags that she would need.

Hey there,

//
19 May:
My apologies for overlooking the question in (b).
Thank you, <vivilau1112>, for pointing it out.

Thank you, <MathIzzzFun> , for sharing with us that there are more than 1 possible answers to this question. The other possible answers to (a) are: 107, 119 and 143.

//

Following pls find my worked solution:

Using <Common Factor> method and given that number of strawberries was between 100 and 150,

1st IF:
4 + 3 = 7

Starting from 7, add {multiples of 4}.
107, 111, 115 ... 127, 131, 135 ...

2nd IF:
6 + 5 = 11

Starting from 11, add {multiples of 6}.
101, 107, 113 ... 131, 137, 143 ...

(a)
number of strawberries = 131

(b)
131 ÷ 16 = 8 R 3

//
19May: Updated

Hence, minimum bags used = 9

//
==============

Trust this helps.

Do let me know again if this is different from your Answerkey or if theres further clarification.

Cheers,
Edward

Hi. I have come to notice an error in part (b) of Edward's answer.
131/16 is 8R3 but Jewel still needs to pack the reaminder. Therefore
----->8 + 1 = 9

Or if there is some logic behind not packing the 3 remining sttawberries, pease let me know.

Thank you

Junior
