ali and muthu share a sum of money. if ali gives 1/2 of his share to muthu, muthu will have \$48 more than ali.
if ali gives 1/4 of his share to muthu, muthu will have \$28 more than ali.
what is the ratio of ali's share to muthu's share?

Hey there,

Following pls find my worked solution:

<After>
A |------|
M |------<\$48>|

<process>
A: -1/2 of his share to M
Working backwards ...

<before>
A |------|------|
M |<\$48>|

<process1>
A: -1/4 of his share to M. Split 2 parts(p) of A into 4 units(u), where 1p = 2u.

<after1>
A |---|---|---|
M |---|<20><-28->|

2u --> 20
1u --> 10

At first,
A = 4u --> 4 × 10 = 40

A : M
40 : 48
5 : 6

========

Trust this helps.

Do let me know again if there's further clarification

Cheers,
Edward
