Hi, Please help..

Alex, Billy and Carol shared a bag of berries.
Alex received 60 berries and
Carol received 25% fewer berries than Billy.
Later, Alex gave 28 berries altogether to Billy and Carol.
As a result, Carol had 25% fewer berries than Billy
and the number of berries Billy had increased by 40%.
How many berries were there in the bag?

Thanks.

hey there,

Following pls find my worked solution:

<Before>

A: 60

C : B
75 : 100
3 : 4

<Process>

A: -28

<After>

A: 60 - 28 = 32

B: (140/100) × 4 = (28/5)

C: (75/100) × (28/5) = (21/5)

So ...
[B + C <after>] - [B + C <before>] = 28
(49/5)u - 7u = 28
(14/5)u --> 28
1u --> 28 × (5/14) = 10

Number of berries in bag = 60 + 7u
60 + 7u --> 60 + (7 × 10) = 60 + 70 = 130

========

Trust this helps.

Do let me know again if this is different from your <Answerkey> or if there's further clarification.

Cheers,
Edward
