KCTAN
Hi,
Appreciate some guidance on the following questions:
1. Mary had 100 square and round stickers in her collection.
She gave 75% of the square stickers and 50% of the round stickers to her sister.
In the end, she had 38 stickers left. How many more round stickers than square stickers did Mary have?
2. The ratio of Muthu to Ivan's marbles was 9:5 at first.
After Muthu bought another 92 marbles and Ivan bought another 12,
Muthu had four times the number of Ivan's marbles.
How many marbles did Muthu have in the end?
3. Auntie Rosnah made some curry puffs for sale.
She sold 448 of them in the morning and 4/7 of the remainder in the afternoon.
She was left with 20% of all her curry puffs.
How many curry puffs were sold in the afternoon?
4. There are two numbers. One is 5 times the other.
They have exactly six common factors.
Three of the common factors are 1, 2 and 9.
(a) what are the other three common factors?
(b) what are the two numbers?
Thank you.

Hey <KCTAN>,
Pls avoid putting too many questions into 1 post / thread as it may take / need a longer time to complete them (2 Questions will be just nice ). Also pls help provide <Answerkey> whenever possible , for verification purpose. Thank you.
//updated
Q3, 4 worked solutions posted on 5/8/13 , 9.05pm
//
Following are my worked solutions for Q1, 2 (others will be updated in due course):
Q1.
***  for alignment purpose
100%S + 100%R = 100  (1)
25%S + 50%R = 38 ***  (2)
Eliminate (R), multiply (2) 2x.
50%S + 100%R = 76 ***  (3)
Compare (1),(3):
(1)(3):
100%S  50%S = 100  76
50%S = 24
100%S = 48
100%R = 100  48 = 52
R  S = 52  48 = 4
=======
Q2.
**  for alignment purpose
M * : I
9 * : 5
+92 , +12
4 * : 1
Apply <Changed Qtys> concept, and use the <Cross Mutiply> method.
(9u + 92) / 4 = (5u + 12) / 1
9u + 92 = 4 (5u + 12)
9u + 92 = 20u + 48
20u  9u = 92  48
11u > 44
1u > 4
M (in the end) = 9u + 92
9u + 92 > (9 × 4) + 92
= 36 + 92
= 128
=========
Trust this helps.
Do let me know again if this is different from your <Answerkey> or if there's further clarification.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi Edward,
Thanks for your help!
The answers to question Q1 and Q2 are correct.
The answer key to Q3 is 224.
Unfortunately, I do not have the answer key to Q4 (for the two numbers).
Thanks again!

Hey <KCTAN>
Following are my worked solutions for Q3, 4 :
Q3.
C < 448 >
* < am >< pm ><20%>
3u > 20% total > (1/5)total
1u > (1/15)total
7u > (7/15)total
(8/15)total = 448
Total = (15/15)total = 448 × (15/8) = 840
Curry Puffs sold in pm = 4u = (4/15)total
(4/15)total = (4/15) × 840 = 224
=========
Q4.
Common multiple of 1, 2, 9 = 18
If one number is 18, the other number is (5 × 18) = 90.
Factors of 18
1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18
Factors of 90
1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 15, 18, 30, 45, 90
(a)
Other 3 common factors are 3, 6, 18
(b)
18, 90
===========
Trust this helps.
Do let me know again if there's further clarification.
Cheers,
Edward
