JOlene bought a story book. On the first day, she read 2/7 of the story book. on the second day, she read another 154 pages. As a result, the number of unread pages of the story book was 3/11 of the number of pages read.
(a) What fraction of the book was left unread?
(b) How many pages did the story book have?

(U)nread pages
= (3/11) [(2/7)book + 154]
= (6/77)book + 42

Unread pages + 154 = (5/7)book
(6/77)book + 42 + 154 = (5/7)book
(5/7)book - (6/77)book = 196
(49/77)book = 196
Total book = (77/77)book = 196 × (77/49) = 308

(a)
42 ÷ 308 = (3/22)book
Unread book = (6/77)book + (3/22)book
= (3/14) book

(b)
308

=========

Trust this helps.

Do let me know again if there's further clarification.

Cheers,
Edward.
