Q1.Mr Tang asked us,"Did anyone ring me while i was out?"

Ans. Mr Tang asked us, if anyone had rung him while he was out. (Is the comma after the 'us' necessary?)

Q2. Tim is afraid of the dark. He does not want to sleep alone.

Ans. Fearing of the dark, Tim does not want to sleep alone. (Is it okay to put the 'of' after the 'dark'?)

Q3.The detective asked the man,"Where were you at this time yesterday?"

3. The detective asked the man where he had been at that time the previous day. (Can the 'he had been' be 'had he been'?) (Can the 'previous day' be replaced with 'the day before'?)

Please help.
Thank you

Hi there,

Q1: The comma is not necessary.

Q2: Need you clarify yr question again? Sounds weird to put "of" after "dark"

Q3: "were" to be changed to " had been" , you cannot split "had been"
and "the previous day" is the correct one. No longer using " the day before"

Hope it helps

I think for Q2, it should be:
Fearful of the darkness, Tim does not want to sleep alone.
