Answer is 735.. But I don't understand how they get 7u + 42 = 9 u - 24 (how to get 24?)

Question

Rui Wen had 42 more beads than Shamila. Each of them gave away some of their beads to their friends. The number of beads Shamila gave away was 4/7 of the number of beads Rui Wen had at first. The number of beads Rui Wen gave away was 2/3 of the number of beads Shamila had at first. Both had an equal number of bead left. How many beads did Rui Wen have at first?

Hi <Strawberry>

Your Clarification:
Answer is 735.. But I don't understand how they get 7u + 42 = 9 u - 24 (how to get 24?)

My worked solution may not be exactly the same as what was provided. But based on your clarification, the (24) comes from this statement in the question as follows:

The number of beads Shamila gave away was 4/7 of the number of beads Rui Wen had at first.

<gave away>
S: -(4/7)[1u + 42] = - (4u/7) - 24

Hope this helps you to understand why theres (- 24) now??

Do let me know again if further clarification is needed.

Cheers and all the best,
Edward
