The maximum number of cubes that he managed to recast is 42.
b) If Mr Gopal used all of the 42 cubes to build a cuboid in which the perimeter of its base was 20cm, what was the height of cuboid? Ans 14

Hi <zinmkw>
Following is my worked solution for Q16:
Q16.
<before>
A : B
4 : 1
<process>
A: 105 kg
B:  20.3 kg
<after>
A : B
1 : 2
This is a <Changed Qtys> concept type of question as the qtys in both A, B are decreased. From this model (given the ratios), we can use the <Cross Multiply > method to solve it.
(4u  105) / 1 = (1u  20.3) / 2
2 × (4u  105) = (1u  20.3)
8u  210 = 1u  20.3
8u  1u = 210  20.3
7u > 189.7
1u > 27.1
(a)
B (at the end)
= 1u  20.3 > 27.1  20.3 = 6.8 kg
(b)
A + B (at first)
= 5u > 5 × 27.1 = 135.5 kg
=========
Trust this helps.
Do let me know again if there's further clarification.
Cheers,
Edward
