Hi <willgtohelp>,

Following is my worked solution:

** - for alignment purpose

<Now>
A |-----|<-- 8 -->|
M |-----|

<6 years later>
A |-----|<-- 8 -->|<- 6 ->|
M |-----|<- 6 ->|
** <1u>

Referring to the <6 years later> model,

A = 1u + 14
M = 1u + 6

Given that Ali (A) will be twice as old as Muthu (M), we have ...

1u + 14 = 2 × (1u + 6) = 1u + 6 + 1u + 6
1u + 14 = 2u + 12
2u - 1u --> 14 - 12
1u --> 2

Hence, M's age (now) = 1u --> 2 years old

=========

Trust this helps.

Do let me know again if there's further clarification.

Cheers,
Edward
