Ravi and Sam painted a house together. Sam felt sick and rested for 6 days and Ravi took a day off. If they had to do the job alone, Sam would take 10 days and Ravi would take 15 days. How long did the two men take to complete the painting of the house

Thanks

Chatty

Hey <sundarshoba>

Following is my worked solution:

<Work Rate - fraction of house painted alone per day>
S: (1/10)
R: (1/15)
R + S: (1/10) + (1/15) = (5/30) = (1/6)

R painted alone for 6 days:
(6/15) = (2/5)

S painted alone for 1 day:
(1/10)

Fraction of house painted together (R + S):
1 - (2/5) - (1/10) = (5/10) = (1/2)

Number of days to complete by (R + S):
(1/2) รท (1/6) = 3

Total days taken to paint house:
6 + 1 + 3 = 10 days

========

Trust this helps

Do let me know again if this is different from your <Answerkey> or if there's further clarification.

Cheers,
Edward
