Hi,

Appreciate someone can help me to solve the below questions. Thanks in advance.

1) Andy used 2/7 of a cloth to make a dress.
He also use 11/2 m of the remaining cloth to make a shirt. If he bought 5m of cloth at first,
what was the length of the cloth he had left ?

2) Richard and Ivan went on a tour together.
Richard brought 4 times as much money as Ivan.
After Richard spent $400 and Ivan spent $40, they had equal amount of money left.
How much money had each of them left ?

Sorry but I think there's something wrong with the question. Andy cannot use 11/2 of the remaining cloth.

I attached the answer to question 2.

My solution for Q1

2/7 of 5m = 2/7 x 5 = 10/7m

5 - 10/7 - 3/2 = (5 - 1 6/14 - 1 7/14)
= 2 1/14 m

Question 2

Remaining amount = a

4 x (40+a) = 400+a
160 + 4a = 400 + a
4a - a = 400 - 160
3a = 240
a = 240 / 3
a = 80

Ivan = 40 + 80 = 120
Richard = 400 + 80 = 480

They left $80 each
