Hi there,

Something i need help to understand.

Write 1550 in words.
Correct answer is : One thousand, five hundred and fifty.

Write \$48.05 in words
Correct answer is : Forty eight dollars and five cents.

Why when express in \$48.05, dollars and cents are spelled with (s)?

Thank you out there.

Dollar and cent are units for money. Any quantity more than 1 has to be plural ( with s)
Same goes with litres for volume, grams for mass, metres for length, etc.

It is because the dollars is more than \$1, so we need to add an s behind it.
Just like English, we have to add an s or whatever to the end which is like plural.
So it is the same for cents, it is more than 1 cent, so we need to add an s behind it.
