Hi,

I need help on this maths question. Hope that someone can assist me. Thanks in advance.

Tom and Jerry each has some money. If Tom spends \$90 per day and Jerry spends \$45 per day. Tom will have \$1100 left when Jerry has spent all his money. If Tom spends \$45 each day and Jerry spends \$90 each day, Tom will have \$1700 left when Jerry has spent all his money. How much did Jerry have?

Thanks again.

case 1 (Tom spent twice as much as Jerry)

Tom Jerry Tom 1100 left
2 1
x2
4 2

Case 2 (Jerry spent twice as much as Tom)

Tom Jerry Tom (1700 left)
1 2

In both cases Jerry spends all his money therefore his units should be the same.

4u + 1100 = 1 u + 1700
3u = 600
1u = 200

therefore Jerry had 2 x 200 = \$400 at first
