There were some blue marbles and white marbles in a bag, If 70 blue marbles were to be removed from the bag, the ratio of the number of blue marbles to the number of white marbles would be 3:4. If 112 white marbles were to be removed from the bag instead, the ratio of the number of blue marbles to the number of white marbles would be 8:7. When 48 more blue marbles wre to be added into the bag, what percentage of all the marbles would be blue marbles?

Many thanks in advance.

Before:
Blue-->3u+70, White-->4u
After remove 112 white:
Blue-->3u+70, White:4u-112
(3u+70)Frown4u-112)=8:7
21u+490=32u-112
u=126

Blue-->3u+70+48=496
Total-->7u+70+48=1000
Answer: 496/1000=49.6%

Hi, is there any problem with the question? "when 48 more blue marbles were to be added into the bag", Doesn't that mean that 48 more blue marbles were added AFTER 112 marbles are removed? Pls advice. Thanks

Hi masteryxsoh

The 'if' scenerio are events that do not actually happen, it merely help to provide us a clue to solve the number of blue and red marbles in the bag. Notice the change of word from 'if' to 'when' for the question statement .....

Hope it helps to clarify ... have fun
