1. Jerry bought four times as many pencils as notebooks and spent a total of $ 21.60 . He spent $2.40 more on the notebooks than the pencils. Given that a notebook ncosts $ 3.20 more than a pencil , find the cost of a pencil.
2. Ms Lee baked 24 more chocolate muffins than banana muffins. After she gave away 1/6 of the chocolate muffins and 3/8 of the banana muffins, she was left with 35 more chocolate muffins than banana muffins . How many chocolate muffins did she bake at first ?

Pencils Notebooks Total
4u 1u [Number]
$9.60 $12 $21.60 [Value]
1u of NB ? ($21.60 + $2.40) ÷ 2 = $12
4u of Pencils cost $9.60 1u > $2.40
12 – 2.40 = 9.60
9.60 ÷ 3.20 = 3
Each pencil cost 2.40 ÷ 3 = $0.80

Chocolate Banana
24u+24 24u [at first]
4u4 9u [change]
20u+20 15u [after]
20u + 20 – 15u = 35
5u = 15
1u = 3
She baked 24x3 + 24 = 96 chocolate muffins at first.
