Hi forum experts,

I stumbled yet another P4 parts and whole question. Even though I have the answer I can't figure out why the model is drawn that way.

Connie and Alice had an equal amount of money.
Connie gave Alice \$126.
Alice then had 4 times as much money as Connie.
How much money did Connie have at first?

I don't quite get it when the model shows Connie has two units and Alice got two units (after they draw the 1 : 4). :-(

Hope someone can kindly enlighten me.

Thank you very much.

Hi,
Try to attach the file but unsuccessful

252 / 3 = 84
1 block is 84
Corrine = 84+126 = 210
Alice = (84*4)-126 = 336-126 = 210

Hi, sorry I do not know how to draw model here, please refer to the attachment.

[file]

After giving away \$126 to Alice, Connie is left with 1 unit.
Alice would have 4 units which were 1 unit + \$126 + \$126

3 units = \$252
1 unit = \$252 / 3 = \$84

Now Connie has \$84
She had \$84 + \$126 = \$210 at first.

My heartfelt thanks to both of you.

Actually, I was racking my head why 3 units equal \$252 because I kept thinking it should be 4 parts against 1 part.

Then, I asked my friend and realised that 4 units - 1 unit = 3 units. And hence the initial equal of Alice vs Connie is 2 units vs 2 units.

Hope my understanding is correct. Do correct me if I'm wrong.

Once again THANKS for taking the effort to explain to me.
