Hi experts,

I would like to know how to draw the model for the questions below:

Jug A & Jug B contained the same volume of orange juice at first.
Dawn drank up 1/2 of the volume of orange juice in Jug A & her sister added in 14.76 liters
of orange juice into jug B.

In the end, the volume of orange juice in Jug A was 5 times the volume of orange juice in Jug B.

Find the volume of orange juice in Jug A at first.

I was told by my friend this solution:

5 units - 2 units = 14.76
3 units = 14.76
1 unit = 4.92
4.92 x 2 = 9.84.

But, I can't figure out why B is 2 units and the model drawing.

Hope to have some guidance here.

Thanks.

Hi, I think your question is typed wrongly.
Jug B should have 5 times the amount of orange juice as Jug A.

Since Jug A & Jug B had same volume at 1st
we draw 2 models of 2 units each.
After drinking half of the juice, Jug A was left with 1 unit.

When 14.76 litres was added to Jug B, it would have 2 units + 14.76 litres.
2 units + 14.76 litres is 5 times the volume of orange juice in Jug A.
Therefore, 14.76 litres must be 3 units.

Hopes thats explain the model drawing.

No. I didn't type the question wrongly.

So, now is the solution the same?

N I'm still stuck as to the model drawing.

Hi, I agreed with YTNg method. The final answer is the same as your friend mentioned to you.
Jug B should be 5 times of Jug A since Jug A volumn is reduced to half meanwhile Jug B is added to 14.76.

5 units - 2 units = 14.76
3 units = 14.76
1 unit = 4.92
4.92 x 2 = 9.84.

Anyone can teach me how to attach the file. I failed to do it.
