PSLE Alex alternative — finding weak spots is the start, not the finish
(Disclosure: written by Test Paper — PSLE Alex's most direct competitor. That's precisely why every claim here is dated and sourced from their own pages; corrections welcome at support@test-paper.info.)
PSLE Alex is the closest thing Test Paper has to a mirror image: both products lead with finding a child's exact weak spots, both take the diagnostic problem seriously, and honestly, both are right that it's the problem worth solving. If you're comparing the two, the real differences are in three places.
| PSLE Alex | Test Paper | |
|---|---|---|
| Free tier | 3 sessions/week + 1 mock/week, real | 15-minute diagnostic check-up |
| Exam simulation | Timed mocks, MOE 2026 format, AL scoring | P6 mocks in PSLE format |
| Subjects | Maths, English, Science (Chinese in beta), P1–P6 | Maths only, P4–P6 |
| Parent reports | Gated behind S$59/mo Premium | Free weekly report |
| Retention re-testing | Not advertised (closest: redo yesterday's wrong questions) | Spaced re-tests days later |
What PSLE Alex does better
Exam simulation. Timed mock exams in the current MOE format with AL scoring are the heart of the product — a genuinely useful free tier includes one mock a week, and paid tiers unlock more. It also covers English and Science, not just Maths, and adds a chat-style helper for kids who want to ask questions mid-practice. If full-dress rehearsal across subjects is your priority, it's a strong offering, and its free tier is real.
The differences that made us build differently
- What happens after the gap is found. Finding the weak spot is step one. The question that actually decides the year-end result is whether the fix held three weeks later. PSLE Alex's site doesn't advertise any spaced re-testing of previously-fixed topics (the closest is redoing yesterday's wrong questions the next day). Test Paper's core loop is exactly that re-test: concepts come back days later, cold, and mastery only counts when it survives the gap.
- Where the parent report sits. At verification (2026-08-05), PSLE Alex's parent progress reports are part of the S$59/month Premium tier. We think the parent's view is the point, not the upsell — Test Paper's parent dashboard and weekly evidence report ("4 topics re-tested this week, 3 retained") are free and stay free.
- Depth versus breadth. Three subjects and six levels is a wide surface for any question bank. We chose the opposite bet: Maths only, P4–P6 only, so every concept in the syllabus gets proper diagnostic coverage. Whether breadth or depth serves your child better is a genuine fork — multi-subject families may prefer their trade.
The practical suggestion
Both products have free tiers, so this comparison costs nothing to settle empirically: run Test Paper's 15-minute diagnostic, sit one of PSLE Alex's free weekly mocks, and see which output tells you more about what to do next Tuesday. A mock score with AL band tells you where your child stands; a topic-level mastery map with retention checks tells you what to fix and whether it stayed fixed. Some families will want both — the products overlap less than their taglines suggest.
